Vat Savitri Puja is being celebrated by Hindu married women in India. This festival represents the love and bond between married couple. The married women keeps full day fasting for the long life and good health of husband.

How to perform Vat Savitri Puja

In morning after getting fresh women wear bright color sarees like yellow, red, green and blue. This day women wear new cloths, jewelry and makeup ornaments. After getting ready like a bride they follow the temple steps.

This day women perform puja at Banyan Tree. Banyan tree is a great source of Oxygen and the tree have very long life. That’s the reason in Hinduism our ancestors made rituals to offer puja at Banyan tree so that for Godsake people don’t cut Banyan Tree.

First perform the puja like every other puja. And offer every thing to maa savitri. Then take a knot of roli on threads present in banyan tree. And start taking rounds of banyan tree. You have to take total 108 rounds of Banyan Tree with the Moli. Then pray to Maa Savitri for the long and healthy life of your Husband, yourself and for whole family members.

Why women do Vat Savitri Puja in India

One very ancient story is correlated with this Puja. In Satyug one lady was born named Savitri. She had some god gifted super powers. And when she came across at the age of marriage her father was unable to get best suitable life partner for her. Her father asked her to search life partner by herself. One day Savitri met with one boy named Satyawan. When she faces Satyawan he was behaving normal. Usually when any men comes in front of Savitri. Because of her superpower the men starts losing his stamina. But Satyawan was standing normal. So Mata Savitri guessed that he is the men whom she should marry. But after marriage Satyawan died. Mata Savitri was pure soul. So she kept fast and offered puja to Banyan Tree. When God Yamraj came to take spirit of Satyawan. Mata Savitri followed her till Yam Dwar. Yamraj asked her to return but she denied. Yamraj said he can’t make alive her husband but in place of it she can ask three wishes. She asked her first wish to return her in laws eyesight. Bhagwan Yamraj fulfilled her wish. She asked her second wish to return her in laws kingdom. Bhagwan Yamraj fulfilled this wish also. Then she asked her third wish to become Mother of 100 sons. God Yamraj agreed to fulfill this wish also. But after this ashirwad he came to know that unknowingly he agreed to make alive his husband. Because husband she can’t be a mother. So in this way Mata Savitri saved her husband life.

From that day all married women on the day of Vat Savitri Puja offer puja to Banyan Tree so that Bhagwan Yamraj save their husband life and provide them healthy life.

Things to prepare for Vat Savitri Puja

It will be good if you buy all puja items before puja date to save time on Puja Day. Usually at puja place you will see very big rush. So its good to reach the puja place at morning time. You should avoid off color dresses on this day. Try to wear bright color cloths which is suggested best to wear for Puja in Hinduism. Usually the day remains very hot because of summer season. Try to complete in morning time. Many lady gets faint during puja.
